I have a german friend called Lisa that struggles a bit to find a job when she first arrived in Australia, so she was short on money for a while.
One day she went for a walk, saw a garage sale, and stopped by just for fun. The owner of the house (a lovely lady) began to ask her questions. She answered saying exactly why she was in Australia and what her plans were. She said she needed a job to pay for the trip she wanted to do with her boyfriend and all. So the lady said THIS to her (prepare your heart):
“I’m servian and ran away from Servia during war with my husband, many years ago. I arrived here in Australia with nothing but the clothes I was wearing. We built a life from scratch with much effort and it worked, we became rich, had kids, created an abundant life for ourselves. But I never ever forget what it felt like to have nothing, absolutely nothing, and no one will go through what I did if I can avoid it and help in any way I can.
“This house will be sold because our kids left home and it’s too big for just my husband and I, so we bought a one story house. The thing is we’ll repair the front area of this house right here, so we can sell it for more money. So here’s what we’ll do:
Tomorrow you’ll check out of the hostel and come here with your boyfriend in the morning. I’ll show you around and you’ll stay here at the shed (that’s fully furnished) for as long as you need, saving money for your trip.I’ll take the mini fridge back there and you’ll have everything you need“.
Shocked with the lady’s kindness, Lisa thanked her and at the end, accepted the invitation.
Next morning she arrived at the house only to be welcomed with a big smile from the lady. The shed was gorgeous, fully furnished, and the lady had filled the fridge with lots of food, besides leaving a jar with cookies and glasses of milk for them.
Lisa said; “How can I ever pay you back for what you’re doing to me? It’s too much!”
And the lady answered: If one day someone needing help crosses your path, do everything in your power to help them. That’s the only retribution I want from you.
And that’s how the most special stay of Lisa’s life began, proving there are still AMAZING people in this world! And sometimes they can cross paths with us.
