A few minutes to speak and receive full attention is all the soul asks for. It is done through some form of silence or any movement focusing within, shifting the energy flow from the outside to the inside.
For some, it means sitting still. Others would rather dance ballet or do some intense physical exercise.
Some meditate while cooking. Others while singing or walking.
It always has something to do with being alone and present. With your full attention and no drifting thoughts or thought excess. No distractions; embodying your true self and allowing it to speak to you while you listen and obey.
Some artists – who perform in front of great crowds – surrender to the present moment so completely, that they don’t remember what happened afterward. That is presence at its fullest. These are humans who give in to bliss and ecstasy, which is what meditation eventually leads to.
Athletes who put themselves in situations that cause intense adrenaline rushes – like skydiving, giant wave surfing, or wingsuit jumping – know the feeling Adam Lambert so accurately calls The Original High.
In his song, he speaks about chasing the original high, a concept I love and understand profoundly!
I remember vividly the first time I windsurfed with the foot straps on, very fast on a very windy day. The first time I healed someone consciously and saw what it was like to channel and change a human life before my eyes.
I am still chasing that feeling because once exposed to it, it never leaves you. It comes back regularly, and you have no option but to look for it.
It is too strong and undeniably real. It comes from a place within that you don’t see but know in detail.
A place so deep inside you can’t describe or explain. Only see it, know it, breathe into it, and open up in complete surrender, hoping it will feel invited to, and accept the invitation, to come out and show off.
You can only feel a feeling for the first time once.
A dream can only be dreamed for the first time once.
You can only kiss a person for the first time once.
And you can only feel The Original High for the first time once.
Hence the importance of being present and connected. Once these first times give way to the next moment, it vanishes.
That’s why every motivational speaker, grandmother, spiritual teacher, philosopher, or mentor says some variation of: Enjoy the present moment because it’s all you have. You never know when you’ll be living the best days of your life.
The future is unpredictable, and the past says nothing about the future. So secretive! Might as well enjoy this day. Who knows? Maybe when you least expect you’ll feel The Original High.
